Infertility and mental health
Fortunately medical advances in reproductive health have expanded the possibilities for people seeking to grow their families.
This could include basically any one, but also including same-sex couples, single parents, couples 34+ years old.
However these medical advances can create an idea that we have much more control over our bodies than we actually do.
Ultimately, in fertility treatment, patients have to face several facts - the limitations of bodies, limitations of age, emotional experiences of the process, the couple’s emotional experience of the process, financial resources, and the emotional capacity to persevere the emotional rollercoaster that is fertility treatment.
All of these facts, especially when compared to patients’ wishes, can create many painful emotional experiences. Patients have to hold onto the uncertainty of how the process will unfold. Patients have to tolerate the losses that are involved in the many steps of the treatment process. All while going along being - at work, at home, with children. It’s hard. This process could take six months or it could take years.
Fertility treatment in a fertility clinic is one piece of attending to your health. It is also quite valuable to attend to your emotional health while in fertility treatment. I am trained to help you look at your inner world, not with an ultrasound or a blood sample.
I’m prepared to help you look at whatever you need help with - whether it’s helping you digest all of your experiences in the treatment process, processing loss, helping you make decisions on what is best for you and your family, or helping you communicate with your partner.
Please feel free to call or email for a consultation appointment if you would like support during your family planning process.
